Going to try my hand at 3D art again...

Sun Aug 23, 2009, 4:13 AM
A few years ago on my old deviant art account I got into 3D modeling and rendering for a while and produced a bunch of really half-assed shit with incredibly limited software. I'm going to try again except this time I plan on getting hooked up with some real software (3DS Max) and actually learning how to use it. I know at least one way that I can get instant improvement from my previous 3D artwork: more detail. When I used to model I created models that barely portrayed what I was trying to convey, and yet I couldn't understand why they looked like garbage. When I consider all of the art that I used to create, my biggest hindrance was being totally egotistical in believing that I for some reason knew a lot about artwork despite never bothering to put any kind of effort into any of it.

As for my non-artistic life, my second year at the University of Arizona begins on Monday. I've been having unbelievably bad luck. Massive state budget cuts for education caused one of my classes to be cut, landing me in a different section and forcing me to drop a class and utterly destroy the nice schedule that I hawked over the online registration program for days to create. Then my new used car is having electronics problems and is currently undrivable, so I'm going to have to drive to school in my Dad's other car which has no air conditioner. My Xbox 360 got the red ring of death (for the second time) and I have to send it in to Microsoft for repairs. My math book was sold out at the college bookstore, and I was just a little too late to pick up my parking permit so I'll have to spend extra money to park in a garage on the first day of classes. My sleep schedule was on track for the school year but it was ruined by my friend who kept me up all night because he had a nightmare (wtf >.<;), and somehow a dormant wart has popped up on my thumb despite years of inactivity after they were also frozen and presumably destroyed.

Amazingly, though, I don't really care too much about any of those things. I was pissed at first, but now I just don't give a shit. I sort of expected all of these bad things to happen for some reason. My intuition told me it was coming.

How are things going for you, since you want to major?

Well, if you saw that journal I posted it when I was in a really bad mood :P I still want to attend high level art classes but I think it is more reasonable if I finish my engineering degree first then go learn art afterward.

It 'might' be a better idea to get some books for art and to learn from them, and to do your college major. You don't always need a class for everything; however, art classes teach a lot as well. Plus you can ask the teacher questions:).
I also suggest you ask around about the teacher as well, since all teachers have different methods for teaching stuff. This might not seem like much of an important thing to say, but you would be surprised by how one's teaching method can influence your learning experience.

Yeah! I don't log on much. I'm kinda getting back into art a bit but I don't have much time to make stuff. I want to be more devoted to learning new things though.

It really depends on the day.
For Arms I do mostly dumbbell curls starting at 20lb 2 reps per weight all the way to 40 and back down again. Then a few sets of straight bar and compression curls and occasionally bicep pull ups. For abs I do about 4 sets of 50 sit ups 3 times a week and thats it sense most of having abs is diet. For Chest I dumbbell bench and flys, streight bar bench and decline and incline bench, usually 4 to 6 reps if the weights heavy 3 times.
If you have anymore questions about my work out and deit feel free to ask, I always like to give a helping hand whenever I can.
